Hypersonic Slender Body Aerodynamics
This book provides a comprehensive and student-friendly exploration of hypersonic slender body aerodynamics, combining theoretical and practical aspects. Developed from class-tested material, it includes numerous worked examples, diagrams, and exercises, making it a valuable resource for students and engineers.
Key topics include:
• Slender Body Geometry: From basics to flow field analysis and aerodynamic/thermal load calculations across all speed ranges.
• Supersonic Aircraft Wings: Sharp edges, viscous effects, pressure distribution, and flow characteristics.
• Hypersonic Aerodynamics: Atmospheric properties, flow dynamics, governing equations, and semi-wedge flows.
• Slender-Body Theory Applications: Heat transfer, sublimation, aerodynamic effects, shock layers, and blast-wave theory.
• Axisymmetric Bodies: Potential flow, pressure distribution, drag considerations, and shape corrections.
Unique in its scope, the book consolidates information traditionally scattered across various sources, making it an essential resource for aerospace engineering students and professionals, particularly for courses on slender body aerodynamics.
